There are many causes of tooth loss. Some of the most common include gum disease and facial trauma. When you suffer tooth loss, your entire life is affected. In addition to impacting the quality of your smile, tooth loss makes many simple tasks more challenging and can interfere with your quality of life. At Mid Valley Dental, we can replace a section of missing teeth with a multiple teeth implant.
What are the Effects of Tooth Loss?
Losing teeth can have many significant effects. Common effects include:
• |
A decrease in the quality of your smile. With your smile affected, your confidence can decrease, leaving you feeling self-conscious.
|
• |
Difficulty eating properly. When you cannot chew thoroughly, your digestion is affected, which can then impact your overall nutrition.
|
• |
Trouble speaking. You may develop a lisp or have trouble communicating effectively.
|
• |
Bone loss. Following tooth loss, your jawbone begins to lose mass, which causes it to become weaker. Over time, the bone begins to change shape, causing your teeth to shift out of alignment and altering your bite. Bite changes can then lead to other serious complications. |
Replacing Multiple Teeth with Implants
Replacing a section of missing teeth has traditionally been done with either a dental bridge or with a partial denture. Today, there is an alternative. Dental implants are a replacement for missing teeth that involve the surgical placement of small titanium rods into your jawbone. Your jawbone, then gradually fuses with the posts, integrating them into the bone. This is a natural process called osseointegration. The posts stabilize in your jaw, essentially becoming the new roots that provide support for your replacement teeth.
How are Implants Placed?
To place implants, you need to undergo surgery. This process is done under a local anesthetic as well as sedation. Small incisions in your gums provide us with access to the bone underneath. Holes are drilled into the bone according to your treatment plan, and the implant posts are placed immediately inside. After your gums are sutured closed, temporary teeth are placed on the posts.
Recovery after surgery can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. During this time, we monitor the fusion of your bone and your healing progress to make sure that everything is going smoothly. Once you have fully healed, we take impressions of your mouth, which are used to design and create your final restorations, which are secured onto the implant posts using small screws.
The Benefits of Replacing Several Teeth with Dental Implants
A multiple teeth implant provides many incredible benefits. These benefits include:
